What is a catio? I have never heard of this term or had any idea of what it was. But my wife and I had coffee with a friend of ours and she started explaining what it was. She described it as a large cage you can make out of wood or buy for your cat. This cage could be attached to your out door porch door so your cat can can go outside and enjoy the day without worrying about the threat of predators harming it.
I thought it was fascinating because where we live, we do have the threat of bobcats and coyotes lurking around. So, is a catio just a big outdoor cage?
What is a Catio? Outdoor Catree or Cat Playground
Think about an elaborate cat tree that has scratching posts, cat hammocks, cat perches, stairs and platforms. You then put a huge cage around it and have this beside your patio door. You then have an opening of the cage that goes in and out of your patio door where your cat can go freely in and out in safety.
Some of these can be pretty huge as some of them can take the area half of my patio. Also, some catios are not attached to your patio door. This means you would have to carry your cat and place them in the catio and then take them out and carry them back inside your place. However, if the catio is big enough, you could just leave them outside and just go to give them food and change their litter.

A catio is a great gift for your cat especially if your cat loves to go outside. This can allow your cat to still go outside but without the worry or danger of being hit by a car or attacked by some wild animal or predator.
