5 Reasons We LOVE Greenies Feline treats for our Boy Kitty (Yes, there’s catnip in there…)

Our little buddy Milo (AKA: Boy Kitty!) is one high strung little guy. He always has been – ever since the first day we brought him home, he has been a very nervous and anxious cat. He was taken from his Mom way too young, and on top of that we think he was abused, because of how he reacted to everyone for so long. Lashing out, biting constantly (for a LOOOONG time), etc, etc. With a lot of love, reassurance and patience he’s come a long way and is generally a happy guy now. But, he’ll always be anxious too. That’s just in his DNA.

It was only a couple of years ago that I discovered how much catnip treats helped him out. Ironically, the catnip treats that so many people buy so their cats can get goofy can have a very different affect on cats that have high anxiety. So, we were using Friskies Naturals Party Mix catnip treats for a year or two, and he absolutely loved them! But then, suddenly the company stopped making those variety of treats!! You can still get them in chicken flavour (which our bud really loves as well), but the catnip variety was discontinued in 2023. So we’ve been scrambling to find an easy-to-find and healthy cat treat that has catnip as an ingredient.

TA-DAH! Enter Greenies Feline catnip treats! At first, Milo wasn’t entirely sure about these new treats at all, but I slowly started incorporating them with the chicken flavoured Party mix treats AND the rest of the old catnip flavour of the same brand. And now he loves them!

So, here are my top 5 reasons why we LOVE these treats for Milo man:

1. Greenies treats are good for cats’ teeth

In fact, Greenies Feline treats are the #1 Vet recommended feline dental treat. They have a unique shape that helps to clean cats’ teeth. This would be especially useful if your cat eats a lot of soft food.

2. They have no artificial flavours or preservatives or fillers

Some cat treats have a fairly frightening list of ingredients. These ones are not filled with scary stuff. I feel good about that. It’s nice to be able to provide a little treat to your cat without feeling concerned about them eating it.

3. These treats have less than 2 calories per treat

You’re not overloading your cat with an excess of calories when you feed them these treats. The tub of treats (the size I prefer, as it tends to be a better value) says that you can feed a 10 lb cat 8 treats twice a day for the maximum dental benefits. So, that’s 16×2=32 calories per day. Not too terrible for a lot of goodies.

4. They’re a pretty good value

I’m not saying they are cheap, as you can certainly find even cheaper brands of cat treats. But they’re also not crazy expensive – they’re sort of a mid-range price that I’m comfortable with. Especially since the quality is there. Prices change all the time, but for that large tub of catnip goodies, I usually pay about $11 and it lasts a long time.

PRO TIP: You can always mix these more expensive treats with some of the Party Mix Naturals cat treats I mentioned earlier. Our buddy really loves a mix of the chicken Party Mix Naturals and the Greenies with catnip. It helps to cut down on cost if you don’t want to give them the Greenies treats on their own.

5. The first ingredient is chicken

Like I mentioned before, the ingredients are much cleaner than a lot of other types of cat treats. The first ingredient is chicken meal, not some odd filler.

And – cats really like these! I can say that personally with our fussy cat, and Amazon ratings on these are a whopping 4.7 so obviously cats everywhere agree. Haha. I’ll provide the links below to the different types of Greenies cat treats.
