Can Cats Eat Yogurt?

Can cats eat yogurt? I think most of us would say yes because we love yogurt! Many of us eat yogurt because it has many health benefits for us. For example, notice what Medical News Today says about some the benefits of eating yogurt:

“Yogurts can be high in protein, calcium, vitamins, and live culture, or probiotics, which can enhance the gut microbiota. These can offer protection for bones and teeth and help prevent digestive problems. Low-fat yogurt can be a useful source of protein on a weight-loss diet. Probiotics may boost the immune system.”

However do these benefits translate to our feline friend? Is it safe for cats to eat yogurt?

Can Cats Eat Yogurt? Yes, Mostly!

Yes, our cats can eat yogurt and it can be beneficial for them too! Notice what Animal Wellness Magazine says about the benefits of yogurt for cats:

“Adding yogurt to your pet’s diet provides him with a valuable source of protein and calcium, along with magnesium, potassium, vitamin D, K2 enzymes, essential fatty acids and whey. It also contains probiotics to help support the gastrointestinal system and boost immunity.”

However, there is some caution in particular if the yogurt has additives in it. The same magazine says, “Just be sure to carefully read labels when buying yogurt, to ensure it contains no artificial colors or flavors, and that no sugar or sugar substitutes have been added, particularly xylitol, which is toxic to pets.”
